In this week's edition of Meet The Team, we learn a little more about Kelvin Leung, our Vice President of Growth Fund (OSV+). He focuses on growth investment.

What do you do here at Openspace?

I am a Vice President for Openspace’s growth fund (i.e. OSV+), overseeing investment opportunities and supporting our portfolio companies.

Why did you join Openspace?

I actually first joined Openspace in 2018. I left in 2020 (to invest globally and to help operate a startup) and rejoined in 2023. I first joined because I was (and still am) excited about Southeast Asia’s startup opportunities, and impressed by the high caliber of people at Openspace. I am rejoining because after trying different roles in the tech ecosystem, I realize I like investing in Southeast Asia the most. More importantly, I really enjoy the culture that Openspace has.

What is one unexpected thing about you?

I have a corgi! His name is Bailey, and since he’s born on 4th May, we call him Bailey Skywalker.

Who's someone you’ve always wanted to meet?

Tom Brady! His journey from starting off as an underdog to one of the best (if not the best) quarterback is very inspiring.

What's one thing you really like about working here?

Building a strong relationship with founders. It gives me tremendous joy helping founders on whatever challenges they have. Building a company is extremely difficult (and most of the time, very lonely), so I would love to support however best I can.

Do you have a particularly interesting or memorable highlight of working here?

Offsite trips in Bangkok and Boracay. Lots of great memories (and secrets) that I will only share over drinks. Nevertheless, those are remarkable team bonding moments!

What's a really good piece of advice that you've received from someone in the office?

Always think from the founders’ perspectives first. Don’t be a Board member that you don’t want if you are a founder.

If you were to make an Openspace pizza, what's your chosen topping?

Blue cheese, French mustard and sliced steak.
