Beleaf has announced a $6.8 million Series A on Tuesday. This round is led by Alpha JWC Ventures and joined by Openspace.

Beleaf started out as a hydroponic farm specializing in leafy greens in 2019 before expanding to sell other farming products and eventually venturing into the FaaS (Farming as a Service) model in 2022. Beleaf is building an integrated platform to provide farmers with access to high-quality inputs, agronomy guidance, cutting-edge technology, and sales and marketing support to improve the yields and productivity of local farmers.

This Series A funding is a significant milestone for Beleaf as it will empower and facilitate the company to solidify its presence in key farming areas across the country. Plans include expanding their farming network to areas like Bali, Medan, and Lembang and setting up research and development farms. With the establishment of research and development farms in these locations, Beleaf aims to launch its FaaS network to elevate its commercial presence and brand in both Indonesia and the neighboring countries.

The funding will also be allocated to reinforcing Beleaf's supply chain and commercial divisions that will enhance the overall operational efficiency and expand its sales footprint to new international markets. Beleaf's commitment to innovation is also evident in its focus on further developing its internet of things (IoT) devices, such as weather stations and dosing systems, as well as the Beleaf OS. Beleaf aims to further enable its FaaS services and contribute to improved farmer yields with these advancements.

Currently, Beleaf's produce is available in four countries, including Singapore. With the recent funding, Beleaf sets its sights on entering six additional countries and onboarding over 2,000 farmers to leverage its network by the end of 2024.

Ian Sikora, Executive Director of Openspace, expressed confidence and enthusiasm in the recent investment: “At Openspace, we’ve assessed a vast number of agritech startups, and Beleaf’s early progress really stands out from the pack. The full-stack approach on select crops allows them to achieve rapid growth, especially given they achieve the best-in-category margins. Amrit and the team have already shown an unwavering commitment to sustainable growth, while aiding farmers and delivering produce that’s delighting consumers across the region. We’re confident in their execution, and excited to partner with them more as they push forward.”
