MAKA Motors, Indonesia’s electric motorcycle company, has just launched its first locally built model, the MAKA Cavalry last week. Built specifically for Indonesian riders, the MAKA Cavalry redefines the riding experience by combining sustainability, performance, and style.

As proud supporters of MAKA’s vision, Openspace participated in the company’s US$37.6 million seed funding round in 2023 and has recently doubled down on our commitment. We were also honored to attend the launch event to celebrate this achievement and the dedication of MAKA Motors to creating a product that resonates with the needs and aspirations of Indonesian riders.

In Indonesia, motorcycles are more than just a mode of transport—they are an essential part of daily life. As one of the world’s largest motorcycle markets, the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) remains in its early stages in the country. This is where MAKA Motors steps in to accelerate this shift while offering a solution that meets the demands of daily commuting, heavy traffic, and diverse terrains for Indonesian riders with MAKA Cavalry.

Performance & Range

Many Indonesians, especially ojek online (ride-hailing) drivers, travel long distances daily, navigating heavy traffic and diverse terrains. The MAKA Cavalry is built to handle these varying conditions in Indonesia with a range of up to 160 km on a single charge. This ensures that riders can travel comfortably without worrying about running out of battery. For added convenience, the MAKA Cavalry charges quickly—just 1 hour with the standard charger adds 20 km, or only 26 minutes with the Maka Charger+ for a faster recharge.

In urban traffic or at a stoplight, quick acceleration can make all the difference. The MAKA Cavalry responds instantly, accelerating from 0 to 60 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Riders can swiftly navigate through dense traffic or overtake other vehicles on the road with ease.

The MAKA Cavalry is also equipped with two modes, Hi-Regen and Hi-Torque. Hi-Regen optimizes energy recovery during deceleration and braking which extends the battery range and helps riders get more out of each charge. On the flip side, the Hi-Torque mode is designed for thrilling acceleration, with a burst of power when quick starts are needed.

Adaptable for Urban & Rural Conditions

Indonesia’s topography, with its steep hills and winding roads, presents unique challenges for riders. To address this, the MAKA Cavalry is equipped with advanced incline-handling technology that allows it to climb slopes up to 30 degrees without losing stability or rolling backward.

Additionally, the MAKA Cavalry comes with reverse functionality that helps riders park the motorcycle easily in tight spaces—ideal for Indonesia's crowded urban centers like Jakarta where parking can be a challenge.

With Indonesian riders constantly on the move, storage and connectivity are essential. MAKA Motors has prioritized rider comfort and connectivity with practical features like a 20-liter storage compartment for helmets and daily essentials, as well as USB Type A & C ports to make sure that riders can charge their devices while on the go.

Sleek Design & Sustainable Innovation

Beyond functionality, the MAKA Cavalry has been meticulously designed with Indonesian riders in mind who value aesthetics just as much as performance. Its sleek, modern look combines an aggressive front design with an elegant rear that reflects the strength and courage of Indonesian riders.

MAKA’s proprietary technologies, including the Intercellar™ battery, Revium™ dynamo, and Osiris™ controller, offer a riding experience that rivals traditional gasoline motorcycles. However, unlike gas-powered bikes, the MAKA Cavalry significantly reduces the environmental impact, aligning with the global push for sustainable transportation solutions.

Founded in 2021 by ride-hailing veterans Raditya Wibowo and Arief Fadillah, MAKA Motors has rapidly emerged as a leader in Indonesia’s EV sector. Its dedicated research and development facility ensures that every innovation is tailored to meet the specific needs of Indonesian riders, making the MAKA Cavalry a truly homegrown solution.

The MAKA Cavalry is already being retailed at a competitive price of IDR 35,850,000 (OTR Jadetabek), and the brand has 5 showrooms across the Jadetabek region.

As an investor, we’re excited to see how MAKA Motors will transform the Indonesian mobility scene. We remain committed to supporting MAKA Motors as they continue to drive innovation that paves the way for a more sustainable and efficient future for riders across the country and beyond.
