In this week's Meet The Team, we learn a little more about Kelvin, our General Counsel and Executive Director. He handles all legal and regulatory matters concerning the firm and the funds we manage.
What do you do here at Openspace?
I am the General Counsel at Openspace and am responsible for all legal and regulatory matters concerning the firm and the funds we manage. I also am responsible, together with our CFO, for the Corporate function at OSV. In between those roles, I moonlight as the firm’s resident bartender.
Why did you join Openspace?
I had known the Openspace team for a few years prior to joining and I always looked on enviously as the firm went from strength to strength. I was surprised and delighted to receive an invitation to apply to join the team and it was an opportunity that I could not pass up. Fast-forward a few years, I look back at that decision to join as one of the best I have made in my career - it is not every day that you are part of the team at the forefront of innovation in Singapore and South-East Asia.
What is one unexpected thing about you?
I think I’m quite predictable unfortunately… Maybe my colleagues will have a different view!
Who's someone you’ve always wanted to meet?
Lee Kuan Yew. However, I probably will be too stunned to actually say anything so that would be a massive waste of his time.
What's one thing you really like about working here?
There are many things to like about working at Openspace, but if I were to pick out one thing, the vibrancy of the firm and our work. No one day is the same as the previous, and the energy and conviction with which we set about our tasks is something that I really value.
Do you have a particularly interesting or memorable highlight of working here?
Every AGM is a real highlight for me - where you see everyone pitching in to ensure that we give our investors a chance to really understand the work we do, day-in day-out, to be the best possible stewards of their investment in us.
If you were to make an Openspace pizza, what's your chosen topping?
Consistent with my love for economic rice - Crispy Chicken Chop, egg, and some variation of fried tofu, dipped into a flavourful curry.
