At Openspace, Derek is a key part of the Ocular investment team, overseeing portfolio companies and opportunities in web3.

Derek first joined Openspace in 2021. He previously assisted with the launch of the Ocular fund, and was responsible for sourcing and evaluating web3 investments. Prior to re-joining Openspace, he was most recently with the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singapore, working on domestic security policies and legislation. He started his career at the Ministry of Health in Singapore, focusing on national healthcare manpower strategies. He was also involved in managing Singapore’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, and was awarded The Commendation Medal (COVID-19) for his efforts.

Derek holds a M.A. in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences from Columbia University, and a B.Sc. in Quantitative Economics from Tufts University; both of which were on a full scholarship from the Singapore Government.
